1900's (he appears in Gen's budget on 6/16/1916)
and was a personal friend of the Chief. Born 1854, retired
to upstate NY in 1924 and died in 1942. In the 1930's, he

Ray Fletcher was the co-pilot on a number of Joe's B-25
missions. During a training flight on 5/10/1944, the plane
Ray was co-piloting crashed near Sartene, Corsica. An
excavation of the crash site began in 2005, and in 2010 his
remains were returned to the US. Joe had sent Priscilla (Ray's sister) some photos of Ray around the time of his death; Priscilla wrote to Gen about her loss. the Army Admin school in late '43. He was supposed to be a
Classification Specialist (MOS 275 - same as Dot), but seems
to have been doing other work. By early 1944, he was
stationed in Hawaii, and later in the south pacific. His letters to Dot are full of negative thoughts about the Army, soldiers, etc. |

friends; they often visited socially, and had rotating
parties (which often featured beer!) with other
friends. They're listed in Frank's address book as residing at 248 87th Street (crossed out) and at 269 90th St. The 1940 Census shows them residing at 230 86th St (ED 24-1126A, Pg 9), with William [aka Bill] Kampf (36) as head and spouse Mary (32), with children Eileen (12) and William (10). Doc 559 is a card to Frank signed "Gladys, Willie, Eileen & Billy Kampf". Gladys is likely Mary's middle name (see findagrave.com link below). a policeman. Frank lists their address as 8702 3rd Ave in Brooklyn (ED 24-1128, Pg 3, 1940 census). Charles was 27 on 4/3/40 and Gertrude was 26; children Charles Jr. (6) and Lawrence (2). Bobby Katz was born sometime after the 1940 Census, and a son Dennis was born 2/9/45. Dennis was killed in 1948 in an accident. |
